Tips for writing it

A good holiday card for a coworker is short, warm and something you’d be happy for the whole team to read. Mention one specific thing they did this year, like covering a shift, helping you onboard or keeping a project on track. Skip religious wording unless you know how they celebrate, and keep humor about shared work life rather than anyone in particular.

Send it during the first two weeks of December, or at the latest before your office closes. In 2026 Christmas falls on Friday, December 25, so many people are gone from around December 18. If you’re sending one card to the whole team, post the link in your team channel with a short note, so even people working remotely or on leave get it.

Frequently asked questions

What do you write in a holiday card for a coworker?

Wish them a restful season, thank them for one specific thing from this year, and look forward to working together in the new year. Two or three sentences is plenty.

Should I give every coworker a holiday card?

You don’t have to. Many people send personal cards to the colleagues they work with most and one shared card to the wider team. That way nobody feels left out and you don’t spend a whole afternoon writing.

Is it okay to say Merry Christmas to coworkers?

It’s fine for colleagues you know celebrate Christmas. For everyone else, or for a mixed team, “Happy holidays” or “Season’s greetings” is the considerate default.

How do I send a holiday card to a remote team?

Create one card addressed to the team and paste the link into Slack, Teams or a group email. It opens in any browser on phone or laptop, so people can watch it wherever they are.

Do my coworkers need an account to open the card?

No. They just tap the link and the envelope opens. Nobody has to sign up, including you.
