About CardPetal

CardPetal is a free place to make animated cards that feel like the real thing. Your recipient taps a wax-sealed envelope, the card slides out and unfolds, and your message is written by hand, stroke by stroke, while they watch.

Why we built it

Most e-cards ask for an account, an email address or a subscription before anyone sees a thing. We wanted the opposite: a card you can make in a minute and send as a simple link, with nothing to sign up for and nothing stored about what you wrote.

How it works

• Every card is drawn live in the browser — the art, the particles and the handwriting are generated from code, not video files.
• The handwriting follows real single-line pen fonts (the SIL Open Font License EMS collection), so each letter is written in the order a person would write it.
• The whole card is compressed into the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers never send to a server. See the privacy policy.
• Music and sound effects are synthesised in the browser; the melodies are original or in the public domain.

Languages

CardPetal is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Turkish, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian and Japanese, with message ideas written for each language rather than machine-translated.
