A good Christmas card message does two things: it wishes the season well and it says something about the past year together. One line about a shared moment (“our snowy trip in February,” “your help with the move”) turns a greeting into a note people remember. Keep faith-based messages for people you know share them, and use “happy holidays” or “season’s greetings” for colleagues and clients whose traditions you’re unsure of.

For timing, aim for the second or third week of December so the card arrives while the season still feels fresh.
